Loy Krathong, November Full Moon

Tonight is Loy Krathong, a wonderful Thai festival. Our resort is taking people, who want to go, to the main pier tonight for the festival. The girls who cleaned our room asked if we were going and I said yes and she asked if I had a float and I told her no. She said a friend of hers was making them and selling for 50 baht so I ordered one. We went to our restaurant and when we returned it was by our door. I think it is beautiful. We have been in Bangkok for Loy Krathong before and it is distressing to see all of the ones (thousands if not millions) set afloat and they are floating with stryrofoam as the base. This one is made with a cross section of banana stalk for the base. Nothing artificial and just beautiful and ecologically sound. I am so pleased with it. We leave at 6:30 for the festival so hope to post more pictures tonight or tomorrow morning early before we leave. We will go to Trat on the speedboat at 9:30 in the morning. The water was very choppy for this mornings speed boat trip to the mainland and we noticed they all put on lifejackets. I will try to post another picture of our Loy Krathong boat. The purpose of this ceremony is to float all the bad feelings, bad luck, from the past year out of your life. Tom, Jeannie, I don't know how all this works but when our floats away I am going to say a prayer for you both and for Stephanie too. Somehow as the bad luck for the last year floats away good luck comes in. Some people place nail and hair clippings on their boat to personalize the negative things in their personal lives floating away. Will try to do that too. I don't know about internet after we leave here so if this isn't updated for a few days you know we will be okay, just out of wifi range. Love, Mom
